The Campus of International Excellence Southern Catalonia has organised the “Southern Catalonia Nobel Campus”, which will take place from 1st to 4th July at PortAventura Convention Centre. The event brings together six Nobel Prize-winners in chemistry, world-class scientists and leaders in R&D&i in companies active in the field of chemistry. Under the slogan “Chemistry for Life”, the goal of the Nobel Campus is to generate intense interaction between the Nobel laureates and young researchers who participate in the event in an environment conducive to dialogue and the formal and informal exchange of experiences and knowledge.

100 young researchers have been chosen – master’s, doctoral, and postdoctoral students – from the CEICS and universities, institutes and research centres in Catalonia, Spain and all over Europe to take part in this unique experience. These will be researchers with excellent academic backgrounds who will have the opportunity to listen to and mingle with the six Nobel Prize-winners in chemistry and even present their research and get feedback on the projects they are working on. The six laureates, who have achieved the highest scientific recognition in the world, are Sidney Altman, Ryoji Noyori, Barry Sharpless, Aaron Ciechanover, Richard R. Schrock and Ada E. Yonath.

This world-class scientific gathering brings together six winners of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, outstanding scientists and young researchers in a setting that encourages the exchange of experiences and knowledge .

But not only select researchers will have the chance to attend and experience this prestigious knowledge event; some of the scientific activities planned are open to the public. These include the presentations given by the Nobel Prize-winners and the heads of leading chemical companies, as well as the roundtables on energy and sustainability, health, and new trends in corporate innovation, in which internationally renowned scientists will also take part. Those who wish to participate in these open activities must be registered for the event.

Chemistry and Energy is one of the five areas of specialisation of the Campus of International Excellence Southern Catalonia
