PhD student at the Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC)
Research topic: “Magnetic nanoparticles for cell tracking and therapy in ischemia”
BSc&MSc degree in Medicinal Chemistry, obtained in November 2008 at University of Bari, Italy. I am interested in biomedical research because it gives me the possibility to bridge together chemical knowledge, materials, biology and medicine. Currently my interests focus on new strategies for non-invasive treatments of vascular diseases, based on cellular therapy and drug delivery with biocompatible magnetic nanoparticles. My PhD project is entitled “Magnetic nanoparticles for cell tracking and therapy in ischemia”. It is done in collaboration with the group of Neurovascular Research Laboratory and Neurovascular Unit at the Vall d'Hebron Research Institute.
Past research activities: Synthesis of new organic biosensors based on semiconductor polymers in the research group of Prof. Naso, at the Chemistry Department of University of Bari, from January 2009 until June 2010. Strategies for asymmetrical synthesis of chiral compounds for pharmaceutical drug developing in the research group of Prof. Florio, at Pharmacy Department of University of Bari, from April 2008 until November 2008.
My motivation for attending CEICS Nobel campus 2012 is to have the chance to meet people with great expertise in the chemical research field which will expand my knowledge on the latest advances. It will also be a great motivation for pursuing a scientific career in the future.
