PhD student at the Universitat de Barcelona
Research topic: Enantioselective building of carbon – carbon bonds by organocatalytic Michael reactions
My name is Andrea – Nekane Roig Alba and I received my B.Sc. in 2007 from University of Alicante, where I performed under-graduate research on aldol reaction with L-prolinamide and L-prolinethioamide under the supervision of Prof. D. Alonso, and my M.Sc. in 2008 from the University of Barcelona, studying the first organocatalytic kinetic resolution of compounds with planar chirality. Currently, I am pursuing my PhD under the supervision of Prof. Albert Moyano and Dr. Ramon Rios at the University of Barcelona, with research focused on the discovery of new organocatalytic asymmetric methodologies. I signed up for the campus because the society as it is known today requires highly prepared scientists who have a multidisciplinary approach to science. The formative phases of our education, however, tend to be more and more specialised as we go on the education system. Therefore, new opportunities, such as the “Nobel Campus”, are of paramount importance, since they allow young researchers to meet established and world-known researchers in a closer atmosphere than that of a conference.
